Surrounded by magnificent mountains and sea

Ringed by the 3,000-meter Tateyama mountain range and bountiful Toyama Bay, the city of Toyama stands among breathtaking nature, famous for both its scenery and its local cuisine. It now boasts a new light rail transportation system and state-of-the-art convention facilities, but this is a city full of history that first prospered over 400 years ago from maritime trade and manufacture of medicines. Toyama is full of sites and opportunities for all kinds of themed parties. The most popular excursions are tours to Kurobe Tateyama Alpine Route and the World Heritage Historic Villages of Gokayama with their thatched farmhouses.

    Toyama is well-known for its fantastic seafood from the Toyama Gulf, including trout, yellowtail, shiba shrimp, firefly squid and red snow crab. Toyama's local farms also produce fantastic Toyama pork, rice, Kazumi apples and Kureha pears. Restaurants in Toyama are famed for their Toyama black ramen and takaoka croquettes.

    The Toyama area is rich is sights for visitors. These range from the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route with its excellent scenery, the famous "Snow Corridor", the Kurobe Dam and Kurobe Gorge, Unazuki hot springs, the World Heritage sites of Shirakawa-go and Gokoyama, Zuiryuji Temple (a designated National Treasure), Toyama Castle, and several beautiful costsline areas.
