    From Kansai International Airport > central Kyoto (Kyoto Station): 75 minutes by train (JR Haruka Express) or 95 minutes by bus. There are also airport shuttle taxis directly serving Kyoto hotels.

    Kyoto is the "heart" of traditional Japanese culture, and as such, has many local specialities.

    Some examples of local culinary treats are kyo-gashi (traditional sweets), kyo-tsukemono (local pickled vegetables), Fushimi sake, and kyo-kaiseki (Japanese haute cuisine).

    Local handicrafts include nishijin-ori (brocades), kyo-yuzen (traditinally dyed fabrics), Kiyomizu-yaki (a type of pottery), kyo-sensu (folding fans), and kyo-kumihimo (braided rope).

    Kyoto has a wealth of important cultural and historical spots in fact, it is home to 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Seme of the most famous include Kamigamo-jinja, Shimogamo-jinja, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kinkakuji (the Golden Pavillion), and Nijo Castle. You could wander the city for days and not see all of the temples, shrines and other important cultural sites that Kyoto has to offer.
