Introducing ‘Japan, Endless Discovery’

Since the Visit Japan Campaign was launched in 2003, ‘Yokoso! Japan’ has been the catchphrase used for promotional activities regarding inbound tourism. It is now being replaced by ‘Japan, Endless Discovery,’ with a new logo depicting cherry blossoms, a familiar symbol of Japan. The concept behind the new catchphrase is to convey the message that “Japan is a country where visitors can experience endless discoveries.”

It’s hoped that visitors from abroad will return to Japan many times to deeply appreciate the rich variety of tourism resources it has to offer, including its profound history, its vibrant traditional culture, and the bounties of nature—typified by cherry blossoms. JNTO will be providing all kinds of information to match the message of the catchphrase.

‘Meet Japan 2010’ in the Historical City of Kanazawa

JNTO’s Hosted Buyers Program ‘Meet Japan 2010’ was held from February 26 to March 4. Taking part were ten leading association executives and meeting planners from nine different countries who were planning to hold international conferences in Japan in the near future.

"Meet Japan" is an annual program designed to offer a chance for international conference organizers to make on-site inspection visits to attractive convention cities in Japan and gather information about conference facilities, tourist attractions, and the relevant support programs through discussions with the local convention and visitors bureaus in each city. This year, for the first time, the main venue for the trade mart was moved from the Tokyo Metropolitan Area to Kanazawa, an ancient provincial city imbued with the atmosphere of the traditional samurai culture that lasted for over 200 years.

The welcome party was held with the full support of Ishikawa Prefecture and Kanazawa City in the Tsuru-no-maru rest house inside the 400-year-old Kanazawa Castle Park which is not normally open to the public. While partaking of all sorts of local delicacies, the participants could enjoy a superb view of the beautifully floodlit castle and lively social exchange with local volunteers. Here are some comments from participants:

Participant 1
Name:Mr. Dimitris Raptopoulos (Greece)

Comments:
The program gave me the opportunity to visit many places in the country, not only convention venues but also touristic and cultural attractions, things that are of interest to delegates of an international congress. In this respect, the content of the program was very effective.

Participant 2
Name: Ms. Eva Marie Matyskiela (Philadelphia/USA)

Comments:
The people of Japan are so friendly and hospitable. Everyone greets you with a smile and is willing to help. This would be very welcomed by our international attendees.

Hotel Updates

InterContinental Hotel Launches MICE Program in Yokohama

As part of its strategic MICE program, the IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan launched ‘InterContinental Meetings’ at the InterContinental Yokohama Grand Hotel in April. Based on the group concept of providing ‘Truly memorable delegate experiences with an authentic local flavor,’ the program provides community-based and hands-on meeting plans in cooperation with the neighboring Pacifico Yokohama and the

Yokohama Convention & Visitors Bureau. Within two hours of making your first inquiry, the hotel’s highly efficient booking system will send you a reply, followed by an e-proposal within 48 hours.

As the first hotel in the group to initiate ‘InterContinental Meetings,’ Yokohama Grand has prepared ten programs under five themes. The ‘Insider Breaks’ theme, for example, includes refreshments served during meeting breaks, such as Chinese tea with simple dim sums that can only be found in Yokohama Chinatown and Japanese matcha powdered tea with confections.

The ‘Insider Interactions’ theme offers the experience of treasure hunting inside Yokohama Chinatown. Why don’t you consider including these delegate experiences in your itinerary?
