2024.09.12 Kyoto Chosen as Host City for the 18th World Congress on Inflammation!

We are pleased to announce that Kyoto City has been selected as the host city for the 18th World Congress on Inflammation [WCI]2028, to be held in 2028.

The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), in collaboration with the Kyoto Convention & Visitors Bureau (KCB), supported the bid to host the event under a “Team Japan” structure led by Dr Hiroshi Takayanagi, Vice President of the Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration and General Chair of the WCI2028, and Dr Tetsuya Taga, Board Member (in charge of international affairs) of the Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration. The final presentation made at the WCI2024 Executive Board meeting in Montreal, Canada in July 2024 was successful. Japan's academic achievements, in addition to Kyoto's rich tourism resources and the enthusiasm and planning of the people involved, were highly regarded, leading to the successful invitation to Kyoto City.

The World Congress on Inflammation aims to advance research and education in inflammation and regeneration and is held biennially. The 2028 congress will be organized in collaboration with the Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration, bringing together researchers from around the world to share the field’s latest scientific developments. Japan has been a pioneer in the field of inflammation research, having also successfully hosted WCI 2009 in Tokyo. The decision to host the event in Kyoto is a testament to the country’s international recognition and trust.

Working closely with the host organizers and KCB, JNTO supported the bid through strategic actions such as issuing invitation letters, conducting local lobbying, and providing presentation assistance. This collaborative effort was key to the successful selection of Kyoto as the host city.
