2025.04.17 Ehime Selected to Host the VELO-CITY, the Annual World Cycling Summit 2027!
We are pleased to announce that Ehime Prefecture has been selected as the host destination for VELO-CITY 2027, the annual world cycling summit, organized by the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF). The official announcement was made by the ECF on January 30, 2025, following a competitive bidding process and site inspection conducted in 2024.
Ehime submitted its bid in September 2024, and during the ECF’s site visit in December, the Governor of Ehime highlighted not only the region’s stunning natural landscapes and the internationally acclaimed Shimanami Kaido cycling route but also the prefecture’s forward-thinking policies on cycling infrastructure and promotion. These efforts contributed significantly to the success of Ehime's bid to host this prestigious international event.
The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), in partnership with the Government of Japan—including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and the Japan Tourism Agency—provided comprehensive support for the bidding process as part of a cohesive "Team Japan." This included the issuance of official letters of invitation and consultation services for the preparation and submission of bid documents.

VELO-CITY is widely recognized as the world's premier annual cycling summit, serving as a global platform for dialogue and ideological exchange on cycling policy and innovation. The event brings together a wide range of participants, including policymakers, urban planners, researchers, industry professionals, and cycling enthusiasts from around the world to explore key topics such as cycling tourism, safety, and urban planning. In addition to its academic and policy-oriented sessions, VELO-CITY also fosters cultural exchange through community events, such as bicycle parades and cultural experiences held in the host city.
VELO-CITY 2027 will be held from May 25th to 28th, 2027, in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. It will mark the first time the summit is held in Japan. The event is expected to welcome over 1,000 international participants from around the globe.
