2025.09.30 Toyama Selected as Host City for URSI Asia-Pacific Radio Science Conference 2028 (URSI AP-RASC 2028)

We are pleased to announce that Toyama City, Japan, has been officially selected as the host city for the 2028 URSI Asia-Pacific Radio Science Conference (URSI AP-RASC 2028). This decision follows a successful bid led by JNTO MICE Ambassador Professor Kazuya Kobayashi of Chuo University, who played a pivotal role in promoting Japan’s candidacy.

The final decision was made during the URSI AP-RASC 2025 conference held in Sydney, Australia from August 17 to 22, 2025. Professor Kobayashi, together with representatives from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), delivered a compelling presentation and participated in a Q&A session. As a result of the final deliberations, Toyama was selected over competing bids as the official host city for the 2028 conference.

JNTO supported the bidding process as part of "Team Japan", coordinating closely with Toyama Prefecture, related stakeholders, and overseas offices. Their efforts included issuing invitation letters and conducting promotional activities to strengthen Toyama’s candidacy.

URSI AP-RASC 2028 will take place in August 2028, in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture. This prestigious conference will mark the third time the conference is hosted in Japan—following Tokyo in 2001 and Toyama in 2010. The event is expected to attract over 700 international participants from around the world.

The successful bid was made possible thanks to Professor Kobayashi’s longstanding relationships with URSI AP-RASC members, the robust support system provided by the Japanese team, and their thorough preparations and proactive lobbying efforts.
