2025.10.22 Goldschmidt Conference to be held in Tokyo!
The Geochemical Society has officially announced that the Goldschmidt Conference will take place in Tokyo in July 2028. Tokyo was selected as the host city due to its outstanding international accessibility, strong global reputation, and comprehensive support programs.
This will be the first time in 12 years that the conference returns to Japan, since it was last hosted in 2016 in Yokohama.
The successful bid was led by Professor Tetsuya Yokoyama of the Institute of Science Tokyo, together with other members of the Geochemical Society of Japan. As part of "Team Japan", the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) supported the on-site inspections carried out by the Geochemical Society during the venue selection process.
The Goldschmidt Conference is held annually, alternating between Europe (odd-numbered years) and North America (even-numbered years). However, approximately once every decade, the conference is held outside North America on an even-numbered year.
This prestigious international conference showcases cutting-edge research on topics such as Earth sciences, the origin and evolution of life and the solar system, resource exploration, and global environmental challenges.
Given geochemistry’s strong interdisciplinary connections with fields such as geology, volcanology, environmental science, planetary science, life sciences, materials science, and analytical chemistry, hosting the conference in Japan is expected to attract a diverse range of participants and foster dynamic cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Furthermore, a significant increase in participation is anticipated from young researchers, students, and attendees from neighboring Asian countries. This is expected to invigorate the field of geochemistry across Asia and enhance Japan’s presence on the global stage.
