Sorakuen (300 yen)
This public, Japanese-style garden covers about 20,000 m2. As you stroll along its footpaths, over stepping-stones and stone bridges, the landscaping evokes sweeping natural vistas like rocky waterfalls and remote mountain ravines. Notable flora include a Japanese Sago cycad ornamental garden and a giant 500-year old camphor tree. In early May, the azaleas bloom spectacularly here. Important Cultural Properties on site include the former Kodera Barn, a European-style structure with a zelkova wood front entrance; The Boat House, raised onto dry ground for preservation purposes; and the former Hassam House, designed by an Englishman. The Kanshin-teo ceremonial tearoom sits perfectly in the garden setting offering classic Japanese views.
