Option A: Historic Miyazaki

Aya Castle (Admission: 350 yen)

This is an all-wooden, carefully researched modern reconstruction of the hilltop fortress first built here 660 years ago. The castle changed hands repeatedly through Japan's age of civil war and was ordered torn down in 1615 after the country was unified under the Tokugawa shoguns. Now, the reconstruction houses exhibits of traditional samurai weapons, armour and other historic artefacts. It also offers expansive views of the town of Aya.
