Meon Ferry/ Ogijima Community Hall
Meon is the name of the ferry connecting Takamatsu Port with Megishima and Ogijima. During the winter it makes five round trips per day. In the summer and during the Setouchi Triennale 2013, service is more frequent.
As the ferry arrives at Ogijima, the Ogijima Community Hall, a large portal-like structure which doubles as a ferry terminal, comes into view. The building was designed by Jaume Plensa, a leading Spanish artist who exhibited in the first Setouchi Triennale in 2010. It is titled "Ogijima's Soul" and has a roof composed of the intersecting shapes of letters and characters from many languages, including Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, and Chinese. As it casts shadows of these jumbled letters in the midday sun, the work expresses the diversity of our world.
