World heritage Gokayama Gassho-Zukuri village lodging experience

At Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Thatched Roof Building Village in Gokayama, you can experience an overnight stay at a World Heritage Site, which is incredibly rare in Japan.
The guest houses where you can stay are all traditional "Gassho-zukuri" houses that let you have a taste of the way of life in times past.
For meals, gather around a sunken hearth and enjoy a set meal made with local seasonal ingredients such as mountain vegetables and char fish.
Inside the village is a museum where you can learn about the history of the village and the internal structures of the houses' roofs, as well as a facility where you can try your hand at making Japanese paper, which used to be made in the Gassho-zukuri houses. You can also arrange for a performance of traditional folk songs that have been passed down among local residents through generations. Advance application required.
