Sendai City Museum

The museum owns a large collection of items formerly belonging to the Date clan, which controlled the Sendai region from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. The collection contains items significant in the history and art of Sendai, including armor owned by the first Lord of the Sendai Domain, Date Masamune, and precious materials related to the Keicho-era mission to Europe (three items of which are certified as Memories of the World by UNESCO). The permanent collection numbers around a thousand pieces, the display of which is changed seasonally.
